NEW YORK, September 19, 2011 —The Chinese Porcelain Company is pleased to present Botanical and Ornithological Watercolor Paintings by Gertrude Hamilton and Tony Henneberg,
on view at 475 Park Avenue, New York, NY. The exhibition features new stunning botanicals by Ms. Hamilton and exceptional ornithological works by Mr. Henneberg.
Gertrude Hamilton was born and educated in Ghent, Belgium. She studied graphic design at HIGRO in Ghent and then continued her studies in the arts at the Atelier Lettelier in Paris and at the Art Students’ League in New York City. She began to focus on botanical and natural history illustration after the curator of Ursus, Evelyn Kraus, discovered her work. Using antiqued paper, Hamilton deftly combines a variety of historical inspirations with a keen modern sensibility, resulting in a unique and refreshed interpretation of a classic genre. The artist lives in New York City with her husband and two children.
Tony Henneberg was born in Kiel, West Germany. He and his family moved soon thereafter to Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, to join his grandparents in farming dairy, cattle, and various crops.
It was on this farm in Africa that he developed his love of painting animals, working both in watercolor and oils. Though his focus is mainly on birds, his subjects also include landscapes and portraits. Henneberg renders his ornithological subjects with an extraordinary accuracy and attention to naturalistic detail. Painted in a manner reminiscent of Audubon, each bird exhibits a strong and confident pose, commanding a striking presence on the paper. The artist currently lives in Pine Plains, NY.
